Zuni Mountain Chapter Activities

Do you love being outdoors? Do you have a passion for recreation

opportunities on public lands? Have you ever gazed in awe at the

Milky Way over Bluewater Lake? How about riding, caring for, and

learning about horses and mules? Have you yearned to take a

pack trip into the Cibola National Forest to accomplish important

work?

Those are some of the activities we pursue as members of the Zuni Mountain Chapter of New Mexico's Back Country Horsemen. We have fun, we work hard, we enjoy the fellowship of New Mexicans who care deeply about the beautiful lands that surround us. We make a difference. Here's how we do that.

Trails on Public Lands

Along with other members of the Zuni Mountain Trail Partnership (pdf), we helped                                         make the Zuni Mountain trails (click here (pdf) for maps of trail systems in our                                               area) a reality for  all trail users. The development of that trail network is one of our                                       long-term projects, along with the Gallup North Side trails.

Share Information
The Zuni Mountain chapter maintains contact with news sources and keeps abreast of developments on public lands. We maintain a strong presence on Facebook and our website to keep our members and the public informed about trail closures, wildfires, public lands legislation, our Chapter's community service and trail projects, and the rewarding rides we take.

Fun Rides and Membership Meetings
It's not all sawdust, log bucking, and rock moving for us. Our members and steeds gather to ride for the pleasures of the desert and mountains, to enjoy conversation with friends, and to be out in the world with our horses.

In the summer, we hold a ride in conjunction with a membership meeting (usually) and those are posted as events on
our Facebook page. In the winter, usually have a meeting at one of the member's houses. (usually mine on a weekend) But all the dates and times are set up on the Facebook page.We usually schedule rides on the first Saturday and third Sunday of each month.
Check out the events section of our Facebook page for the next meeting or ride, or email bchnmzunichapter@gmail.com for more details.
